Collaboration combines AWS cloud infrastructure and security capabilities with MakinaRocks’ AI expertise to advance mission-critical defense AI, while supporting expansion into defense, space, and global markets

Runway to evolve into a defense AI OS spanning command and control through battlefield management

SEOUL, South Korea, July 7, 2026 ⎯ MakinaRocks, South Korea’s leading Physical AI company, today announced a strategic collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to accelerate the expansion of its defense AI business.

Through the collaboration, MakinaRocks will leverage AWS’ cloud infrastructure and security capabilities to develop AI technologies for defense applications. The company will train, deploy, and operate large-scale AI models on AWS’ high-performance cloud infrastructure, while designing architectures that deliver the high availability and low latency required for mission-critical operational environments. To meet the stringent security and regulatory requirements of South Korea’s defense sector, MakinaRocks will adopt AWS security best practices and progressively implement cloud-native approaches, including AI operations and data pipeline design.

The collaboration is designed to accelerate the development and deployment of AI systems that meet the performance, resilience, and security requirements of mission-critical defense environments.

Under AWS’ shared responsibility model, AWS secures the underlying cloud infrastructure, while MakinaRocks is responsible for securing the defense data, AI models, and applications running on it. MakinaRocks will retain full ownership and control of all defense data and core algorithms throughout the collaboration. Building on its experience deploying AI in mission-critical industrial environments, the company will further evolve Runway, its AI operating system, into a version optimized for defense applications.

The collaboration also supports MakinaRocks’ international growth strategy. The two companies will collaborate on international co-sell opportunities, joint marketing at global technology events, and customer development across overseas defense and industrial markets, initially focusing on Japan and the broader Asia-Pacific region. MakinaRocks also plans to list Runway on AWS Marketplace, expanding its reach beyond defense into manufacturing, energy, and critical infrastructure markets worldwide.

“Adopting AI in mission-critical fields, including defense, requires both exceptional accuracy and the highest levels of security and reliability,” said Jeongwon Yoon, Public Sector Lead at AWS Korea. “AWS will bring its proven cloud infrastructure and security capabilities to this collaboration with MakinaRocks, laying the foundation for trusted AI development and operations in the defense sector.”

“This collaboration with AWS marks a significant milestone in Runway’s evolution into a defense AI operating system,” said Andre S. Yoon, CEO of MakinaRocks. “By combining AWS’ global experience supporting defense organizations with our AI operating system and industrial AI expertise, we aim to advance South Korea’s defense AI capabilities to a globally competitive level.”

Looking ahead, MakinaRocks plans to expand its defense AI portfolio into autonomous unmanned systems, space situational awareness, and cyber defense. The company cites U.S. defense technology company Anduril as a benchmark. Its AI software platform, Lattice, powers autonomous defense systems and military drones used by the United States and allied nations, demonstrating how software platforms can become the foundation for next-generation defense capabilities. MakinaRocks aims to similarly evolve Runway into a defense AI operating system supporting military operations across command and control, battlefield management, and other mission-critical environments.
